Is a window structural?

Parapet walls, doors and windows, furniture and fittings, partitions or partition walls, tiles, paint, and so forth are non-structural components. They provide aesthetic appeal and functional use of space, but they don’t contribute to the strength of the building.

Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing. Where there are windows and doors, the walls include beams, or headers, spanning across the tops of the openings. Posts on either side of the openings support the beams. A house will rarely have an entire stretch of an exterior wall that is non-load-bearing.

Do window sills serve a purpose?



Without the window sill, the window, wall and floors inside the home would all become water damaged. Window sills also play an important role in the functionality of the window. Do new windows include sills?

Normally the external sill is an addition but unless a window frame is being fitted into an apperture with a concrete sill, or with creasing tiles or similar in situ they should always be fitted WITH an external sill and concealed drainage. In most cases, when you have windows replaced this usually includes a new cill.
