If it was installed properly with Loctite, it may require some heat to break it loose. To install new, chase the threads with the proper tap, clean threads thoroughly and install new insert with Loctite. Let cure overnight before you use.

New member. Far better to cut it before insertion as it will be next to impossible to cut it off neatly afterwards. If cut before they are ussually quite forgiving as they are compressed into the outer thread, as long as they are not too badly mangled.

Can a HeliCoil be used on a through hole?

If the thread was completely stripped out to begin with, you can skip the drilling step, because the hole will already be at the correct diameter for tapping for installation of the HeliCoil. For a through hole you can run the tap all the way through for a full thread.
