  1. Turn off the power at the breaker.
  2. Rip the wall open.
  3. Pull out the devices from the boxes and label the wires of the devices.
  4. Remove the devices.
  5. Unclamp the cables and pull them back.
  6. Pry off the boxes.
  7. Place new boxes.
  8. Insert and clamp the cables.

How do I get my outlets to sit flush?

The good news is, there’s a quick an easy fix to this problem! Add what’s called a Goof Ring to your electrical box. It’s a cheap plastic sleeve that slides into your electric box. It rests between your electrical box and device and the front tabs sit on your outermost surface.

Can I screw electrical box to a stud?

A better solution is to get a box similar to the one below with side screws already included to be mounted to the stud. This is the same size as the old work box but allows you to screw directly into the stud. Thanks JACK. That works too.
