I use Ronseal high performance wood filler. Easy to sand and sands smooth. You’ll have to sand between coats of primer because first coat will raise the grain of mdf leaving filled areas non-raised.

Can I use normal filler on MDF?
Anything that is water based can cause a problem with mdf as the bare mdf can absorb water and swell, pushing out the filler, You could prime with Cover Stain prior to filling or use a filler that isn’t water based.
Can I use caulk on MDF?
A decorators caulk or acrylic sealant would be my choice. If you’re selling the fluffy MDF edges there are a number of options. MDF primer, water based primer, shellac, Zinsser BIN etc.
