Can you run power to the light first then to the switch?

Given 14/3 is more expensive than 14/2, in most cases, I’d say run power to the switch first unless it’s substantially father away from the power source than the lights (eg: the power-supplying wire passes your lights, then you have to double back with power to the lights).

How do you wire multiple lights from one power source?

You can do this light switch wiring in one of two ways. The most common is to daisy-chain the light fixtures by connecting them to each other and hooking the first one up to the switch. The other way to wire multiple lights to one switch is to connect all of them directly to the switch in a “home run” configuration.

Can a single pole switch control two lights?

A single light switch that controls two fixtures, such as two lights or a light and a bathroom or ceiling fan, can be converted to a double light switch that allows you to operate each fixture independently. If each fixture has a separate cable running to the switch, this is a fairly simple task.

How do you tell if power goes to light or switch first?

Only one cable enters the switch box, coming from the fixture. The white wire to the switch should be marked black to indicate that it is hot. (Ground wires are not shown.) If the line carrying power comes into the light box first, the circuit must still be wired so the switch interrupts the black line.

What is double pole switch?

What is a double pole switch? Double pole switches are connected to two separate electric circuits. They essentially contain 2 switches which are linked together and can complete the circuit either simultaneously or staggered.

Neutral wire is a return wire for the current in an electrical circuit. That is it carries electricity from the output device back to the service panel/board.

Can you daisy chain lights?

Daisy chaining is a simple way to connect two or more light fixtures. Multiple light fixtures operated by a single switch can be most easily wired through a process known as “daisy chaining.” This is a simple, serial wiring scheme that connects the wires of the light fixtures one to the next in a single circuit.
