Is it OK to connect power sources directly into wall outlets?

According to the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), products that generate heat, such as hair dryers, space heaters, toasters or crock pots, should always be plugged directly into the electrical outlet. They pull too much power to safely use with a power strip or extension cord.

Do exterior outlets need to be on their own circuit?





Individual GFCI outlets do not have to be on their own circuits. The only reason I can think of that would be a safety concern would be if the GFCI’s were not listed for outdoor use or not in weatherproof boxes. They are gfci outlets and they are both in weatherproof boxes. Inspectors are often wrong.

Does outdoor wiring need to be in conduit?

Local codes typically require conduit protection for exterior wiring if the wiring is installed above ground. If you are burying the wiring, most codes allow for underground fed cables, but some will require the use of a conduit. Buried or exposed wiring will need to be listed for its application.

Do outlet boxes need to be flush with drywall?

The front edge of the box must be flush with the finished wall surface, usually 1/2-inch-thick drywall. Some boxes have depth gauges. You can use a scrap of drywall to position the box.
