Yes you can certainly do this. Other options include replacing any outlet upstream with a GFCI, or replacing the breaker with a GFCI breaker. In both these cases, the entire circuit would be protected.

Does it matter where a GFCI is in a circuit?

You may only see one GFCI receptacle, but all down-circuit receptacles can be protected if installed properly. The GFCI receptacle simply needs to be located closest to the breaker on that circuit. It will provide protection for all of the down-circuit “ordinary” receptacles.

Is outlet downstream of GFCI protected?

One of the best features of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters) is their downstream protection. That means the same safety feature you get from a GFCI outlet is automatically applied to all other outlets wired further down on the same circuit, as long as the outlets are wired properly.

Can you mix GFCI outlet with regular outlet?

You should never chain two GFCI circuits together. When you install a GFCI circuit, you should only ever chain standard outlets off of them. Multiple GFCI on the same circuit can cause each other to trip.

How many outlets can be downstream of GFCI?

There’s no limit. A standard GFCI will protect up to 20 amps, drawn from any combination of receptacles, either the built-in one or any number of additional ones connected to its load terminals.

Should GFCI be at end of circuit?

Re: Does GFCI Have to Be First In Line? Yep, GFCI first receptacle outside, and feed others from that. You ‘should’ not have more than 1 GFCI on a circuit, although it would still work, it would be a waste of a GFCI !

Can you install a GFCI outlet anywhere?

GFCI outlets should be installed in any potentially wet or damp areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, outdoors, basements, garages and workshops.

Can I have 2 GFCI on one circuit?

As stated above, you only need one GFCI on the circuit, provided you install the GFCI outlet on the first (aka lead) outlet. Installing one GFCI is also the most cost-conscientious approach as a GFCI receptacle can cost $25 or more while a standard outlet only costs about $5.

How do you wire a GFCI outlet downstream?

Quote from the video:
Quote from Youtube video: And what's line and what's load. Line always brings your power okay on the load side that is what downstream on your other receptacle this one right here. Because. This is your main one.

Will one GFCI protect the whole circuit?

GFCI circuit breakers are simple: By installing one in the service panel (breaker box), it adds GFCI protection to an entire circuit, including the wiring and all devices and appliances connected to the circuit.

Can 2 GFCI receptacles be wired in parallel?

It is possible. You have to ask yourself if that’s what you REALLY want; the design of a GFCI outlet is such that it will protect everything “downstream” of it and 99% of the time this is a very good thing.

Can you pigtail a GFCI outlet?

If the GFCI outlet detects a difference between the current exiting and returning, the GFCI breaker trips. A GFCI protects multiple outlets when the wires twist together with a jumper wire, called a pigtail, and the jumper wire connects to the GFCI.

Can you daisy chain GFCI outlets?

Daisy chaining GFCIs does not increase protection. In industrial and commercial installations, GFCI devices may be daisy chained, but the upstream GFCI devices usually are set to a higher trip point while the downstream GFCI devices protecting point-of-use receptacles is set to the standard 6mA.
