Why the Ground? The ground is an attractive place for electricity to flow because it is positively charged, only more so when the tiny particles in the atmosphere collide, filling clouds with negatively charged particles. (These are also called ions.)

Why am I getting power on my ground wire?

Under normal conditions, when electrical current flows along the grounded neutral conductor, a small portion of the current also flows through the earth. This creates some neutral-to-earth voltage (NEV), a small but measurable amount of voltage at each point where the electrical system is grounded.

What happens when power touches ground?

If a circuit breaker or other protection device does not open, things will explode, melt, catch on fire. If you happen to be part of that path to ground, you will receive a dangerous, perhaps lethal, electrical shock.

Should there be current on ground?

Does ground have voltage?

Why is my ground wire reading voltage?

Stray voltage occurs when electricity leaks from the black wire directly to the white or ground wires. Small amounts of electricity are produced by these leaks. The system would be shorted by direct contact between the wires.
