Will concrete screws work in brick?

Why are my Tapcons not grabbing?

The hole needs to be slightly smaller than the diameter of the fastener so that the threads of the Tapcon have something to grab into. If the masonry bit you use is too small you won’t be able to drive the Tapcon in at all. If the masonry bit is too large, the Tapcon will not hold.

How do you tighten Tapcon screws?

Once the masonry screw is tight against the surface of the material being fastened, do not continue to tighten. Over torquing may cause the tapped threads to strip out. To avoid over torquing, tighten with your hand for the last few turns.

Why are Tapcon screws breaking?

The dust can build up and create a situation where the screw is unable to be fully inserted in the hole and if too much torque is applied, the Tapcon® screw may break of shear off.

We recommend drilling into the mortar instead of the brick for a few reasons. Drilling directly into brick is more difficult than drilling into mortar and runs the risk of damaging the brick. It is also easier to repair mortar if you drill into the wrong location or decide to remove your decorative item.

How do you use a masonry anchor screw?



Drill a pilot hole at the proper location with a hammer drill and masonry bit to the depth your screw will penetrate. Tap the plastic anchor into the hole. It should fit snugly but drive in easily with a hammer. If the hole gets a bit large, use a bigger screw to push the plastic against the walls of the hole.
