I have a path through which I’m running some speaker cables behind some crown molding. I would like to use the same path for two 12 gauge speaker cables for about 25 ft. Will it cause interference to have these cables running next to each other? None that you’d notice with your ears.Apr 25, 2017

Does speaker wire cause interference?

Registered. – No, it is not likely for noise to be induced into your system through speaker wiring that is carrying high-level signal. If you’re worried about it, buy primary wire for speaker wire and use a drill to twist the wire tightly, then run that to your speakers.

Can you run 2 speaker wires together?

There are only really two ways to connect 2 speakers to one amplifier – either in parallel or series. If each speaker has an impedance of 8 ohms or more, then you can generally connect them in parallel. If each speaker has an impedance below 8 ohms, you should wire them in series.

Can you join speaker cable together?

There are a couple of ways to splice speaker wires. One way is to twist speaker wires together and use electrical tape. However, tape wears out over time, and the smallest tug on the wires can separate the connection. The better option is an in-line electrical crimp connector (also known as a “butt” connector).

Is it OK to run speaker wire next to each other?

There’s not a safety issue involved, it’s just a matter of keeping the resistance of the wire small relative to the impedance or the speaker for best sound.

Should speaker wire be separated?

Quote from Youtube video: Probably not real important to get the distance that people have talked about you know you need to separate them out a couple of feet.

Can you run RCA cables next to speaker wire?

Yes yes, don’t give it a second thought. Don’t kill yourself trying to separate the cables. Save it for the more important parts of the install. Thankfully those that know it all, can’t do it all!

Is it OK to extend speaker wire?

Although lower gauge wire can theoretically be extended over long distances, it’s recommended that you don’t run any speaker wire longer than 50 feet. If you need to run a wire further than this, it is highly recommended that you use wiring that is 12 gauge or less.

Can speakers be daisy chained?

Yes, you can daisy chain any speaker that has an “extension” or “through” outlet on some models to a passive speaker. If the model is compatible with this practice, just run a cable from that connection to the input of the next speaker and you’ll feed audio and power to it.

Can you wire two speakers one channel?

You can also connect more than two speakers in parallel. If they have the same impedance, then the resulting impedance is the impedance of one speaker divided by the number of speakers. So the impedance of three 8 ohm speakers connected in parallel is 2.7 ohms.

Is it OK to bundle speaker wires?

IOW, the same kind of cables can run together, but DON”T bundle the speaker cables with the power cables or allow the two kinds of cables to get close together in parallel runs whether bundled or not, because that is when the interference problems occur.

Should you twist speaker wire?

Speaker Cable should always be twisted. Witnessed a System with Parallel wire (Zip Cord) in a home where the receiver and all electronics were unplugged and removed or un-wired from the speaker wires and yet the speakers were clear as a bell still working.

Do speaker cables need to be shielded?

If you use a speaker cable as an instrument cable, the large conductors handle the weak signal just great. But there’s a catch—speaker cables aren’t shielded. Since they normally carry strong, already-amplified signals, any noise they pick up is inconsequential, making shielding unnecessary.

Can you use wire nuts on speaker wire?

Small wire nuts work fine for speaker cables. Ordinary electrical circuits carry far higher power than speaker wires.

What happens if speaker wire is too small?

The only problem with using too-thin wire is that if you put enough current through it that it melts, then your amp won’t be too happy. The amplifier will be quite happy if the wires melt and fuse, leaving an open circuit with no load.

How do you twist speaker wire?

Quote from the video:
Quote from Youtube video: Straight make a fan out and do that so you just want to give them a consistent twist to go clockwise. I guess everyone really does clockwise. Big dyke side and that's fine.

Can you cut speaker wire with scissors?

If you don’t have wire cutters, sharp scissors will do the trick, but you will need to use more pressure. This is done to ensure that your wire reaches from the electronic to the speakers. You can always cut more wire away, but it’s a lot harder to extend it.

What are banana speaker jacks?

So named for its resemblance to a favorite source of potassium and pratfalls, the banana plug is used to finish off the exposed ends of speaker wire and make them easier to plug into your receiver or speakers.
