Do smart thermostats need special wiring?
A C wire isn’t necessary for all heating and cooling systems or thermostats. If you have an older heating and cooling system, there really isn’t a need for a C wire. Not having a C wire doesn’t mean that you can’t install a new smart thermostat in your home.
