Does Ser wire need conduit?





Technically SE cable ran indoors is treated as NM cable…. I’d recommend metallic flex though if a conduit is to be used. Show activity on this post. SER is fine.

Yes, you can run service-entrance cable (SER) in conduit, but it can’t be run underground, either in or out of conduit.

Can I use PVC conduit for service-entrance?

Exposed — PVC conduit is permitted to be used for exposed work. PVC conduit used in an area subject to physical damage must be identified for the application [Sec. 352.10(F)]. Schedule 40 PVC conduit is permitted for exposed locations where not subject to physical damage.

Where can ser cable be used?

SER is a type SE (service entrance), Style R (reinforcement tape) cable, used as an above ground service entrance cable, a panel feeder and in branch circuits. It is most often used to deliver power from the service drop down to the meter base, and from the meter base to the distribution panel board.
